Catherine Young Bates is a Canadian artist based in Montreal and Georgeville, Quebec. Her highly coloured contemporary landscapes are on single canvases or in sectional formats. Large-scale drawings and paintings are done both on site and in the studio, often focusing on the mythic flight of lcarus over various parts of the world.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Catherine Young Bates presently lives in Montreal. She holds a Bachelor's degree in arts and archelolgy from the University of Toronto and a master of art education degree from McGill University. She also studied graphics at the Maryland Institute of Art, painting at the Baltimore Institute of Arts and more recently, she studied at the Hugh O'Donnell Workshop in Connecticut. She was, until 1999, a teacher in the fine arts department at Dawson College in Montreal.
She has taken part in numerous individual and collective exhibitions, mainly in Canada. In 2001, she has been elected at the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Her works are inclueded in the collections of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the New School of Social Research of New York, the Royal Bank of Canada, and many more.
Catherine Young Bates is represented by the D'Avignon Gallery in Montreal, the Art Sales and Rental Gallery of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the St-Laurent & Hill Gallery in Ottawa, the Roberts Gallery in Toronto, and the Michael Gibson Gallery in London, Ontario.

Native de Windsor en Ontario, Catherine Young Bates vit actuellement à Montréal. Elle détient un baccalauréat en art et archéologie de l'Université de Toronto et une maîtrise en enseignement des arts de l'Université McGill. Elle a également étudié les arts graphiques au Maryland Institute of Art, la peinture au Baltimore Institute of Arts et, plus récemment, elle étudiait au Hugh O'Donnell Workshop du Connecticut. Elle a été professeure au départment des beaux-arts du College Dawson de Montréal jusqu'en 1999.
Elle a participé à de nombreuses expositions individuelles et collectives, principalement au Canada. En 2001, elle a été élue à l'Académie royale des arts du Canada. Ses oeuvres font partie de la collection du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, de la New School of Social Research de New York, de la Banque Royale du Canada et de plusieurs autres.
Catherine Young Bates est représentée par la Galerie d'Avignon de Montréal, la Galerie d'art - vente et location du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, la Roberts Gallery de Toronto, la Galerie St-Laurent & Hill d'Ottawa et la Galerie Michael Gibson à London en Ontario.
